Dad was born July 15, 1906 in the Village of Great Parndon, Essex, England, the youngest child of Edward and Alice Mary Hunt. At the age of 21 he immigrated to Canada and worked for a number of farm families southwest of Carman, MB. In September, 1940, Dad joined the Canadian Army and was immediately posted overseas. Before leaving, he married Susan Wiebe on October 1, 1940 in Barrie, ON. He remained in the service after the war and retired in January, 1966. Dad took an active part in the community in the Sturgeon Creek area. His love of singing led him to Sturgeon Creek United Church where he was a faithful tenor in the choir for 35 years. He also served on the Stewards Board, the Board of Elders and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served as Chairman of the Group Committee of the 33rd Cubs and Scouts. All of these activities gave him great pleasure and fulfillment. He also enjoyed creating a beautiful garden during their 42 years at 201 Vernon Rd. In later years, Dad and Mom became members of Calvary Temple and greatly enjoyed the Seniors Group and their many outings. They were faithful attendees until Dads health declined. Special thanks to the many visitors and well-wishers, and to the caring and compassionate staff of the Grace Hospital Palliative Care 4 West. The family would also like to acknowledge Dr. Paul Lu, Dr. M. Ekins, the helpful people at CancerCare, and Lillian of the Department of Veterans Affairs for their concern and efforts on Dads behalf. Funeral service will be held in the Buntain Chapel of Calvary Temple, 400 Hargrave St. on Tuesday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Logan officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dads memory can be made to the Canadian Sunday School Mission, 189 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1L7 or Calvary Temple Radio and T.V. 400 Hargrave St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 3A8.
