JACK LOUIS LANG With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jack Lang on Saturday, October 27, 2001, two days prior to his 80th birthday. Jack leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 36 years, Elsie (Gelhorn), the love of his life; daughters, Eileen Kern, Georgina (Bruce) Thomson and Carolyn Gelhorn; his grandchildren, Brandt, Brenda, Blair, Belinda, Shawna, Peter and Ian; and great-grandchildren, Heather, Melissa, Ryan, Amber, Adam, Haley, Candy and Caylee. He also leaves his brother Alan (Kay) of Oakland, CA as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Jack was predeceased by his parents Mary and John; sister Mary Cole; and brother Frank Lang. Jack was born on October 29, 1921 in Winnipeg. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1939 and served overseas in the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Artillery (C.A.S.E.U. and N.R.M.A.) from 1942 to 1946. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. In 1947 he began a 33 year career at the CNR, retiring in 1980. Jack was an accomplished musician and spent many years entertaining in Winnipeg establishments. He mastered numerous instruments and his music was a source of great pleasure to those who knew him. During his bachelor years he took up flying, obtaining his pilots licence and eventually purchasing his own plane. In the years following retirement he dabbled in computers and was excited when last year he discovered the internet. His main devotion, however, was to his family, especially his wife Elsie, whom he loved and adored. Gramps was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather and his sense of responsibility, dependability, patience and concern will be greatly missed. He was a man of few words and a great listener, a gift, which we all appreciated and admired. He was always there when we needed him and his passing leaves a huge void in our lives, but he will remain in our hearts and minds forever. A memorial service officiated by Pastor Don Engel will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire a contribution may be made in Jacks memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., Winnipeg, MB, R2L 1X3.
