Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS KATHRINA MAGARRELL Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Doris Kathrina Magarrell, aged 85 years, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2001 at Lions Centre Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry William Magarrell, in 1960; and by her parents, Alfred and Inger Manness; and a brother Donald. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Sandra (Clyde) Harvie; son Gary (Barry) Magarrell; daughter Marla (Terri) Magarrell; son Kent (Barbara) Magarrell; and eight grandchildren, Leanne (Andre) St. Jean, Janelle (Dave) Bereznick, Michael (Linda) Harvie, Darcy (Murray) MacDowell, Paul (Debbie) Magarrell, Alexa, Ian and Kathryn Magarrell; and five great-grandchildren, Monique and Raymond St. Jean, Sheldon Bereznick, Melissa Harvie and Griffin Magarrell. She is survived by her sisters, Adele Smith, Florence Carswell, Shirley Cole; and brother Sidney (Helen) Manness; sisters-in-law, Gladys Manness, Gladys Lougheed, Emma Enns and brother-in-law Gordon Magarrell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Doris was born in Winnipeg on March 4, 1916. She grew up in both Winnipeg and in the Domain area, graduating from Kelvin High School. In 1935 she married Henry Magarrell and had 25 happy years of marriage before his untimely death. Widowed in 1960, she left the farm and continued her education subsequently becoming a librarian at the Winnipeg Free Press. She retired in 1977 after 13 years and moved back to Domain. She was very active in community life. The Domain Womens Institute was a special interest. She was an active charter member of the Domain W.I. and held various district offices. Other interests included the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW), local theatre groups, Avonlea United Church (UCW and choir) and the Macdonald Fall Fair Board. Doris valued strong communities and families and to this end, acted as a community historian, co-writing or contributing to several history books including History of the Manness Family 1785-1985, Down Memory Lane (history of Domain community) and Hugging the Meridian (Macdonald Municipality history). She enjoyed many trips to various countries, especially tracing her family roots in the British Isles. Many family activities took her across North America. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Avonlea United Church in Domain. A reception will follow at Domain Hall. Special thanks to Ana Maria Costello and the staff on the 3rd floor of the Personal Care Centre.
