WILLIAM RICHARD RUDD After a short but courageous battle with cancer, Bill passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2001, at St. Boniface Hospital, in his 90th year. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eva in 1997. Bill will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Judith Mackay and son-in-law Douglas Mackay, Marcia Puchniak and son-in-law John Puchniak, son Dr. John Rudd and daughter-in-law Dr. Carol (Kelly) Rudd. He also leaves his grandchildren, Britt (Paul), Krista (Sean), and Nancy (Chad) Hall; John (Shannon), Joseph, Danny (Nora) and Jane Puchniak; Michael (Shauna), Joshua, Polly, and Sally Rudd; his great-grandchild Tatum Hicks; his sisters, Lillian Scott of Vancouver, B.C. and Connie Angus of Hamiota, MB; cousins, Leonard and Marjorie Budd of Carman, MB and Vicki Budd of Calgary; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his sisters Margaret and Gwen. Bill was born on December 17, 1911 in Crandall, MB. He grew up on his familys farm there, and went to Normal School and Business College in Winnipeg. He taught for a brief time before going to work as an auditor for the Unemployment Insurance Commission. It was in Winnipeg that he met his wife Eva McCullagh. They were married in 1943, just before Bill was posted to the Royal Rhodes Naval Station during the Second World War. On their return to Winnipeg, they built their home on Churchill Drive, where they lived happily with their family for 43 years. He continued to work for the UIC and later for Revenue Canada. Bills family was of utmost importance to him, as were his many neighbours and friends. He was an avid gardener, both in Winnipeg and at their cottage at Malachi Lake, where his shoreline garden was a landmark. His Golden Glow lilies are now distributed amongst family members and will be a special reminder of him. He was a longtime, active member of Churchill Park United Church and enjoyed curling at Ft. Rouge Curling Club. Bill and Eva were enthusiastic world-wide travelers. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of wards, 5A, 6E and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their expert care and to Linda Bull for her thoughtfulness and compassion. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Churchill Park United Church with Reverend Russell Wardell officiating.
