HELEN KULBABA (nee PAWLUK) 1923 - 2001 Peacefully, at Holy Family Nursing Home, on November 1, 2001, Helen Kulbaba, age 77 years, beloved mother and grandmother. Mom was born December 25, 1923 in Valley River, MB. She spent her early years in Gilbert Plains and then moved to Dauphin, where she worked at the hospital. Mom loved to tell the story of her move to Winnipeg in 1945. She came on her own with $27.00 in her purse, determined to live in the big city. She married Tom Kulbaba in May, 1947 and together they raised five sons. Mom was an active member of the Womens League at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. Through the church, she established many lifelong friendships. Her devotion to her faith and her involvement in the church were an integral part of her life. She loved to garden and spent many hours with her grandchildren doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards or Aggravation. You always knew where you could find her on Thursday evenings - winning at Bingo and having a great visit with her friends at the church hall. Mom always looked forward to the lengthy long distance calls from her son, Don, who resides in Australia. She was very excited when Don and his wife, Gail came back to Winnipeg for an extended visit. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Ernie (Pauline), David (Caroline), Andy, Don (Gail), Marvin (Natalie) her greatly loved grandchildren, Terri (Troy), Craig, Christina and Kayla; her brother Archie (Elsie), Mike (Vi), Anthony, Orest and sister-in-law Nellie (Edward), and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Emil and Mary Pawluk and her brothers Elmer and Edward. Prayers will be said at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Sunday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. on Monday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Boris Kyba, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, 4355 Main St. Pallbearers will be her sons and her grandson. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Holy Family, in particular the staff on Level 3, St. Annes Ward. A special thank you to her niece Valerie Kuzik for her compassion and special visits with Mom. For those who wish, a donation may be made in Helens memory to the Alzheimers Society, Unit 10, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
