Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. FRED BAILLIE RABKIN Suddenly on September 19, 2001 Fred passed away with his family by his side. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife of 40 years Sarah; daughter Paula (Jeff) son Harry; and grandchildren Taliah and Cole. Also sister Myra of Skokie, IL; and sister Selma of Phoenix, AZ. Fred was predeceased by his father, mother, and sisters, Hillary and Sari. Fred was born on September 19, 1915 in Teulon, MB. His family moved to their St. Vital farm and then to Selkirk Ave. He attended St. Johns High School and attended the University of Manitoba where he graduated with honours with his B.Sc. in 1936 and M.Sc. in 1939. He was one of the youngest students to ever attend the University of Manitoba at the age of 15. He attended Queens University in Kingston, ON where he graduated No. 1 in his class in medicine in 1946 receiving the Governor Generals Gold Medal. Fred worked briefly for the forestry service in Sandilands Provincial Park and Clear Lake during the 1940s and was also in the military after college. Fred first practiced medicine with the Regina Grey Nuns, then in Saskatoon and then Norquay, SK where he was the driving force building the first hospital there. Soon after he relocated to Kamsack, SK "the flying doc" established the airport in Kamsack. Many a time Fred flew and landed in a rural familys field during an emergency. He contributed greatly to the effort building the Elks Hall. He was also a member of the Kamsack Masonic Lodge. Fred loved the outdoor life - hunting and fishing in the Kamsack area. Moving to Winnipeg in 1959, Fred was a partner in the Kobrinsky clinic. He later opened a private practice on McPhillips St. for 25 years before retiring. Fred was a General Practitioner and Surgeon who was dedicated to his patients. He enjoyed his retirement working in his wood shop and tending to his garden. Fred was a dedicated member of the Ashkenazie Synagogue and provided many interesting debates amongst the "round table" members after sabbath services on Saturday. Fred took great pride in the ark he built for the Lubavitch Centre. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kevin Saunders and his nurse Beverly for the attention and care given. Thanks to Rabbi Altein for his kind words during the service, and to the pallbearers - Gerry Finkle, Aubrey and Evan Himelstein, Darrell Donen, Fivie and Bernie Gunn.
