LILLIAN LITT In accordance with her wishes, Lillian Litt (nee Gallay) passed away peacefully in her beautiful home at The Wellington on Monday, October 29, 2001 at age 92. To all who knew Aunt Lillian, she was one of lifes unforgettable people. She was a huge personality wrapped up in a small package. She had a zest for life that continued until her final day. Born in Hawkesbury, ON she was the youngest of six university educated children. At an early age her family moved to Calgary, AB where she obtained a degree in Education. After several years of teaching school in rural Alberta, she moved to New York City where she lived for 55 years always retaining her proud Canadian citizenship. She worked first in the entertainment field and later in administration for a large corporation. In 1968 she married Richard Litt, and they had 13 wonderful years together until his untimely death in 1981. Following this, she continued her busy active life by volunteering her services to several community service organizations on a full time basis. In 1996, she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her extended family and enjoyed her retirement years making new friends and acquaintances at both The Wellington and in the homes of her Winnipeg families. She enjoyed every social outing and was always the life of the party. Lillian was a highly intelligent and practical person. She was generous, insightful, thoughtful, and witty with a sense of humour and never hesitated to tell it like it was. She had wonderful stories to tell about her sisters and brothers, her travels abroad, her visits to her nieces and nephews, and shared them with everyone. Her parents, Herman and Rella Gallay; two brothers, Ben and Wilfred Gallay; three sisters, Mary Stein, Minnie Vare and Jean Caplan and their spouses predeceased her. She will long be remembered by her nephew and niece Aubrey and Philipa Caplan and their children who thought of her as a grandmother. She will also be remembered by her extended and adopted families in Winnipeg and the Helfield family in Eastern Canada. The Caplan family would like to take this opportunity to thank her friends at The Wellington for being there for her, to Geri and Verdie and all the wonderful staff at The Wellington for their love and continuous support and to all her caregivers for their unselfish acts of kindness in her last weeks of life. Lillian was laid to rest beside her beloved Richard, on October 29, 2001 at a graveside ceremony at Shaarey Zedek Memorial Park.
