KATHRYN MARIE GROUT (nee MCKELLAR) With great courage and dignity and surrounded by those she loved, Kathryn Marie Grout (nee McKellar) passed away on November 2, 2001. Born in Grandview in 1933, she enjoyed a happy childhood. Although she lost her father at the tender age of 6, her mother and extended family kept her surrounded by love. Kathys tenacity was evident when she played boys hockey as a young girl and won awards for her skills as a speed skater. Growing up in Grandview she developed her respect for nature and love of all animals. After graduating from high school and attending business college in Thunder Bay she moved to Winnipeg and worked at Richardsons. Proudly she served in the Naval Reserve in the HMCS Chippawa. Marrying Earl in 1957 and happily raising their family in the Westwood Area, entire summers were spent at Albert Beach. Cherished memories came from those times as family values were developed and a sense of security and belonging grew. Kathy was ahead of her time when she returned to the work force after a long absence. She worked for the T. Eaton Company for 18 years, starting in data entry and finishing her career as an administrative assistant to the Manager of Eatons Warehouse. During her later years, Kathy and Earl enjoyed traveling and spending more time at the lake. After her retirement, the athlete in her resurfaced and she played Ringette on the same team as her three daughters, returned to the game of golf and enjoyed line dancing lessons. She also had more precious time to spend with her friends and family. She put her heart into everything she did; her green thumb for gardening, family occasions which showed her exemplary cooking and the many knitted jackets she crafted for her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Earl Grout; children, Judi Grout (Greg Sylvestre), Jill McMahon (Kelly), Johanne Bergeron (Roger) John Grout and Susan Snyder; and grandchildren, Dylan, Rebecca and Blake, brother Bob (Isabel) of Thunder Bay; and Aunt Margaret Mills of Toronto; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Katherine McKellar; and a brother Ken. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, ON109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Earl and John want to thank the many home care workers who helped them in their efforts to care for her. "AND WHEN YOU NEED ME, JUST WHISPER MY NAME IN YOUR HEART. "I WILL BE THERE."
