Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHJALMAR ALBIN OLSON Almer passed away suddenly at Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall on Saturday, November 3, 2001, at the age of 102. Almer will be lovingly remembered by his three sons, Charles (Pearl) of Warren, MB, Ken (Rosa) of Stonewall, Clarence (Ethel) of Maidstone, SK; and daughter Betty (Al) Taylor of Stonewall; seven grandchildren, Chris Olson, Lorelee (Howard) Proctor, Cyndy (Doug) Stewart, Greg Olson, Brian (Kerry) Olson, Lisa (Jeff) Pickell, Jamie (Dawn) Taylor; and 11 great-grandchildren; his sister Alice Andersen of Gladstone; brothers-in-law, Charles Larcombe, Bob Larcombe, Gordon (Elaine) Larcombe; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Clark, Gladys Yule, and Myrtle (Alf) Slatcher. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years, Edith, in 1991. Almer was born in Stephen, MN on August 6, 1899, making him a member of the "Three Centuries Club". He came to Canada with his family when he was a boy, settling first in Oak Point. During World War One, he enlisted in the Army when he turned 18 in 1917 but peace was declared before he was sent overseas. He spent the next several years operating steam powered farm equipment on large farms in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Almer married Edith Larcombe of Camper, MB on November 22, 1927. They moved to Stonewall in 1928 where Almer owned and operated Model Garage from 1936 to 1971. Almer enjoyed a full life, enjoying curling, baseball and playing cards. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, IOOF, and a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He and Edith enjoyed camping and fishing until they were in their late 60s, and then their cottage at Lake Manitoba Narrows until Ediths death in 1991. Their home and cottage was always full of family and friends. Music was always one of his loves and if there was someone to play he would be the first to sing and dance. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel Stonewall. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 7 in the Stonewall United Church. Rev. Mary Best will officiate. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, MB. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Rosewood Lodge for their many years of care and kindness to Dad. MacKenzie Funeral Home in Stonewall in care of arrangements.
