ARTHUR KAUS It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Arthur Kaus, aged 83, on November 6, 2001 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Ashern, MB, with his wife by his side. Arthur was born in Grahamdale, MB on December 8, 1917. Art left home to work at an early age. Aside from working for various farmers, he also worked at Walkins Mink Ranch in Ashern, A.W. Kirvan in Hilbre, R.J. Speers Farm & Race Track in Winnipeg and the RCAF base in Gypsumville. He met Brita Olund while working at Kirvans and they married in 1943. In 1946 they bought a farm in Faulkner, where the couple settled with their infant son. A year later they also had a daughter. Within his 40 years of farming, he also drove a school bus for 15 years, was the secretary of Wooddale School District and was a member of the Interlake Pioneer and Faulkner Community Clubs. In April of 1986, he and his wife retired and moved to the Ashern Pioneer Manor. Here they became members of the Ashern Leisure Clubs. Arthur was a very helping, caring person. He was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 58 years, Brita; his son Bengt (Carol) Kaus of Winnipeg; daughter Carrie Ann (Al) Hummel of Faulkner; six grandchildren, Andrew Kaus and friend Nina of Iqaluit, NU, Richard Kaus, Judy Hummel, Darcy Hummel, Colin Hummel and Sheldon Hummel, all of Winnipeg, MB; one brother Herbert (Hazel) Kaus of Thunder Bay, ON; and three sisters, Martha Haupt of Thunder Bay, ON, Edith Schultz of Winnipeg, MB and Norma (Gerald) West of Winnipeg, MB; sisters-in-law Esther Kaus, Dorothy Kaus and Helen Kaus, all of Winnipeg, MB. Also many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Ludwig and Anna Kaus; sister Delila; and brothers, Asaph, John, Harding and David; brothers-in-law, Ike Schultz, Art Drewlo, Paul Haupt and sister-in-law Jean Kaus. Thanks to the doctors and staff at Lakeshore General Hospital as well as Patsy Klyne and the Homecare workers that helped to look after him while he was at home. Viewing will be held on Friday, November 9 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 at the Faulkner Community Hall with Pastor Ivor Grant officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Interment to follow at the Faulkner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his five grandsons, Andrew, Richard, Darcy, Colin and Sheldon; also cousin Albert Meisner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Runa Mangl, "For Use in the Palliative Care Unit", Ashern, MB. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you did not go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home. We will never lose the memory Of the one we love so much.
