STEWART JOSEPH McIVOR SR. (KITCHI-OPIN) January 10, 1929 - November 4, 2001 Dad left us peacefully on Sunday, November 4, 2001 at 6:15 p.m. after a courageous battle with lung cancer, at the age of 72 years. He was predeceased by three brothers, Lawrence, Elie, and Norbert; two daughters, Mary and Darlene; one son Bryant; his parents, Antoine and Veronique McIvor; along with some grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 54 years, Lena, and their seven remaining children, Donny (Sharon), Mary Agnes (Danny), Stewart Jr. (Della), Sandra (Darren), Gerald (Louella), Irvin (Tanya), and Kingsley (Wilma). Also surviving are two brothers, Walter McIvor and Solomon Houle; and three sisters, Margaret Racette, Irene Richard and Martha Whitenect. Dad was a hard worker all his life and went to great lengths to provide for his family. He spent a lot of years on Lake Manitoba as a commercial fisherman. On top of that, he would move his family all over Manitoba to wherever his employment took him. He was also an excellent hunter and was still actively hunting even after he was diagnosed with cancer. He was a loving family man with a great sense of humour. He was musically inclined and passed this on to his kids and grandkids. He maintained his dignity right to the last breath. He was prepared to go and followed his beliefs wholeheartedly. Wake services commenced on Sunday evening at his residence on the Sandy Bay First Nation and will continue through to Thursday evening. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 9 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady Of The Angels Catholic Church, Amaranth with Father Mike Nwosu officiating. Interment will follow in the Sandy Bay Cemetery. A feast will take place immediately after at the multi-purpose room at Isaac Beaulieu Memorial School. Active pallbearers will be his sons, Donny McIvor, Stewart McIvor Jr., Gerald McIvor, Irvin McIvor, Kingsley McIvor, his nephew Patrick West, and his godsons, Gary McIvor, and Robert Richard. All other family members, relatives and friends are considered honourary pallbearers. Special thanks go to the Sandy Bay Health Centre, specifically Bev and Garnet, Dr. Ken Parker, Dr. Tan, Sandy Bay Child and Family Services, the Ebb and Flow Singers, and all those who took the time to come and visit Dad during his time of illness. Clarkes Funeral Home, Gladstone, in care of arrangements.
