Roy passed away at the age of 78. Roy Schnellert was born on December 10, 1922, to William and Maria Schnellert in Friedensfeld, MB. He was accepted into the Christian family by baptism on December 25, 1922. Roy grew up on the family farm, taking a very active role at an early age. In his youth, he attended the Friedensfeld School when he was not working on the farm. In May, 1936, Roy was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in the St. Johns Lutheran Church in Friedensfeld, MB. During his teen years, Roy spent many summers clearing land and farming the newly acquired property in Glenmoor, MB. In April of 1940, Roy moved with the Schnellert family to the Glenmoor farmstead. During the summers Roy worked the family farm while winters were spent in the bush camps cutting lumber or pulp. On July 15, 1949, Roy Schnellert married Natalie Marguerite Kintop of Greenwald, MB. Together they resided on their farm in Over- water, MB, where he farmed during the summers and spent many winters in the bush camps working at sawmills for Art Betker and Archie Trapp. Roy was an active member of the community serving several terms as a school board member for the Overwater School District. He also served on various council positions for the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Glenmoor, as well as serving as a Sunday school teacher. Roy was the initiator in developing a 4-H Club in the Overwater/Redeer area. During his years on the farm Roy became known as the Veterinarian in Residence helping many neighbours with difficulties in animal husbandry. In the fall of 1966, Roy, Natalie and family moved to Pinawa, MB. Roy worked as a custodian and steam engineer for the Local Government District (LGD) of Pinawa in the W.B. Lewis School until his retirement in 1986. Roy was active in the Pinawa community. He trained as a first aid responder and served on several inquiry boards for accidental deaths. Roy continued his commitment to the church, serving on the council for the Pinawa Lutheran Church. After Roys retirement, Roy and Natalie moved into their newly constructed home in Thalberg, MB. Roy enjoyed working around the yard, tending to his apiary and doing woodwork and crafts. Roy was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. With his quiet demeanor, yet quick wit and great sense of humour, Roy was loved by all who knew him. Roy will be remembered because of his extraordinary legacy of love, compassion and kindness, his soft way of teaching, and his dedication to his family.
