WALTER SLIPETZ February 1, 1915 - November 7, 2001 Peacefully, on Wednesday, November 7, 2001, at the age of 86, Walter Slipetz passed away at the Victoria General Hospital after a courageous fight with cancer. Walter was predeceased by his wife Nellie; parents, Fred and Anne Slipetz; brother Philip; and sisters, Tennie, Mary, Lena, and Nellie. He leaves to cherish his memory daughter Sylvia (John) Morris; sons, Davis Sliptez and Raymond (Shannon) Slipetz; granddaughters, Kim (Henri) LaFleche, and Jennifer Slipetz; and a great-grandson George LaFleche; and one sister Jean (Pete) Skrinski of Atikokan, ON; as well as numerous relatives, friends and neighbours. Walter was born and raised in Pine River, MB. He went to work in the mines from age 14 until he married Nellie in 1942. They then returned to the homestead where Dad farmed until 1955 when he moved his family to Winnipeg. He then was employed by the Marion Hotel. He worked at the Marion Hotel for 10 years and then as a bleach maker for Bristol Myers Canada until his retirement in 1976. He also worked at the Marion Hotel for another 20 years on a part time basis. He took pride in his garden and enjoyed the company of those who came to help and admire it. Prayers will take place on Monday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at 10:00 a.m., also at Desjardins Funeral Chapel. Interment to follow at the Holy Family Cemetery on Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7.
