ELLA LUND Ella Lund, age 92 years, died peacefully on November 4, 2001, after a short illness. Born Ella Severine Smalby Kristensen July 9, 1909 in Denmark, she married Svend-Aage Lund on November 4, 1937. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 with her husband and two sons, Kurt and Niels. The family returned to Denmark in 1956 and later, in 1960, immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where she continued her successful, life-long career as a hairdresser. Ella was an independent, spirited individual who touched many people with her outgoing nature, her love for music, poetry and singing, and her enthusiasm for life. She was a well-known figure in the Osborne Village area, and, in later years, although almost blind and using a walker, would travel by bus every day meeting and talking to many people. Predeceased by her husband Svend-Aage, in 1973, she is survived by son Kurt and his wife Lois and their daughter Liliane of California; son Niels and his wife Alison and their daughter Erica of California and Niels daughter Jennifer Gilchrist and her husband Dean of Winnipeg. Shortly after she took ill, prior to her death, Ellas life was celebrated by her family and friends on September 21, 2001 at the Scandinavian Culture Centre, 764 Erin St., Winnipeg. In her name, donations can be made to the Scandinavian Centre, which had provided many wonderful social events that became a vital source of joy for Ella in her declining years.
