JOHN FORBES HOUSTON (JACK) On Sunday, November 4, 2001 our father and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 87. Jack was born November 10, 1914 in Transcona, the eldest of five children. He is survived by sons, Wayne (Donna) of Kamloops, BC, Barry (Leslie) of Winnipeg; brother Garry (Mary) of Ocala, FL and sister-in-law Mary of Winnipeg; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Rose (1993), brothers, Ron and Bill and sister Phyllis. Jack served with RCAF #5 A.O.S. Winnipeg from 1942 to 1945. After a short career with the CNR, Jack and Rose moved to Sioux Lookout, ON where he resumed his aviation career with Central Northern Airways. While living in Sioux Lookout, Jack was very active on the Community Centre Board, School Board and was an active member/builder of the Golf Course. As a member of the Legion Branch 78 in Sioux Lookout, Jack and his cronies organized and ran a very successful Minor Hockey program. He was later honoured by the CAHA for his contribution. He was awarded a life membership in the Royal Canadian Legion in 1984. Jack and Rose returned to Winnipeg in 1967 where he continued his career with Trans Air / Pacific Western until his retirement in 1980. Dad was an avid gardener, golfer, bowler and woodworker. He was a constant source of information and wit for his family. We all cherish our special memories of him; his presence will be near us as we go about our days. There are so many reminders of the ways he touched each of us, it will be easy to bring a smile to our thoughts and share a "Grandpa" story. At Dads request, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victoria General Hospital Foundation, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, R3T 2E8. We wish to thank the fifth floor nursing staff at Victoria Hospital and Dr. Lowden for their care, compassion and support. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL CHAPEL 222-3241
