JOHN LLOYD (JACK) ECKMIRE

JOHN LLOYD (JACK) ECKMIRE On October 11, 2001 at the age of 79 years in St. Catharines. A devoted husband and father, loyal friend and astute business advisor, but most of all, he was a wise, gentle, kind and spiritual man. Jack was born March 7, 1922, in Riverhurst, SK the second child and only son of Lloyd and Mary Eckmire. In 1924, the family moved to Winnipeg, where Jack grew up. As a young man in a family that loved music, Jack studied voice and violin. Many remember his beautiful singing voice. His love of aviation led him to apprentice as an aircraft maintenance engineer, but he soon joined his father in the accounting profession. Jack became a nationally respected financial expert, advising several of Winnipegs well known companies. In 1942, Jack married Nellie Matthews, and they raised a family of five. Jacks first love was Gods Kingdom taught him by his parents and grandparents. He spent countless hours sharing this hope with family, friends and neighbours. An outstanding teacher, he served as an elder for decades in congregations of Jehovahs Witnesses in Winnipeg, Calgary, Toronto and St. Catharines. Jack was predeceased by his father; mother; his sister Kathleen; and by his wife of 56 years, Nellie; and an infant daughter. He is survived by his two sons, David (Ursula), of Saskatoon, John (Diane), of St. Catharines; and three daughters, Mary-Ellen (John Bone), of London, England, Elizabeth (Glenn Trost), of Calgary, and Norma Jean, of St. Catharines, 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held in St. Catharines. A memorial service and interment will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society, Box 4100, Georgetown, ON.
