LEO CARMEL BERNEY
Date of Passing: Nov 09, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEO CARMEL BERNEY Peacefully, on November 9, 2001, at the Riverview Health Centre, Leo passed away at the age of 97 years. He was predeceased by Effie, his beloved wife of 61 years in 1992, his brothers, Edward and Albert and sisters, Ruby and Ann, all of the Angusville district. Leo is survived by his daughters, Lucelle (Jack) Franklin, Margaret (Clif) Moore, grandchildren, Dan (Trish), Claire (Neil), Julia and Arlene (Brad), great-grandchildren, Julianne, Derek, Mikayla, Annalise, Katherine and Breanne. Born in Angusville, MB Leo was a farmer for much of his life, first in Waskada as a hired hand where he met Effie and then in Angusville and finally Holland, MB. In 1944 the family moved to Winnipeg where he worked at the Cordite Plant until the war ended. He then worked as a carpenter repairing office furniture before retiring at the age of 78 years. After Effie passed away he found living alone a trying time and with health deteriorating he asked to go to a nursing home. He spent a few months in Lions Manor before he was transferred to Riverview Health Centre in November, 1997 where for the first couple of years he enjoyed relatively good health. He loved to hear about the goings on of his grandchildren and watch the antics of the great grandchildren. There was a soft spot in his heart for horses (especially the heavy draft animals) and he would talk on that subject to anyone who would listen. The family wishes to thank nurses and staff on 2CD and 3W for giving him excellent care. A thank you too, to Kathleen Neville for her loyalty and support during his stay at Riverview. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leo may be made to Riverview Health Centre, Personal Care CD2, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 9Z9, or a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception will follow. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715

Uncle Leo was an awesome man who built beautiful furniture and I loved to hear his stories about horses and the "good old days". Miss you Uncle! - Posted by: Glenda Cruikshank(children & grandchildren) (Neice) on: Dec 05, 2012
