PETER EMELNICHENKO Peacefully, at Seven Oaks Hospital on November 11, 2001, Peter Emelnichenko passed away at the age of 96 years. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Valerie, January, 1996; parents, Nyceta and Martha; and brothers in Poland. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Helen Semkiw (Borden), Marsha Roscoe; granddaughters, Denise Wales (John) (Ontario), Tara Roscoe (New York) grandson Gary Semkiw (Jennifer) and great-grandson Devon (Ontario). Peter was born in Stepanie, Poland on March 10, 1905. He came to Canada in his early 20s, worked on some farms in Saskatchewan. He was told there would be more opportunity of work in Winnipeg. In Winnipeg, he met Valerie, married and had two daughters, Helen and Marsha. Times were tough those early years and Peter later was employed as a tailor. He worked for Jacob & Crawley Garment Manufacturing for approximately 45 years, he became an excellent tailor. In his younger days he belonged to a Ukrainian choir, enjoyed fishing and boating with his late buddy Harry, and did some travelling. He was a member of St. John Cantius Church throughout his life in Winnipeg. A special thank you to his caregivers in the past several months. Viewing will be held at St. John Cantius Roman Catholic Church, 846 Burrows Ave. on Friday, November 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Henryk Uczniak officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Peters memory to a charity of choice or St. John Cantius Church.
