CAROLINE ELIZABETH McBRIDE On Sunday, November 11, 2001 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Caroline Elizabeth McBride, a resident of the Douglas Campbell Lodge, widow of the late Roy McBride died, aged 90 years. Funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church, 15 Tupper Street South, Portage la Prairie, on Wednesday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Gladstone Cemetery. Carrie was born on March 14, 1911 in Westbourne, MB, daughter of Roland and Harriet Stratton. She was predeceased by her husband Roy in 1995, and by three brothers, William, George and Rodney. Carrie leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her daughter Pat and husband Jack Elliott, grandsons, Tom and Ian, all of Winnipeg; one brother Robert (Ella) Stratton of Port Colborne, Ontario; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd (Edna) McBride of Winnipeg and Earl (Marion) McBride of Victoria, B.C., and by one sister-in-law Agnes McBride of Gladstone, as well as several nieces and nephews. Carrie taught school for ten years before marrying Roy on July 12, 1941 at Westbourne. She was a teacher in the Westbourne, Miami, Woodside and Pembroke schools. Roy and Carrie farmed in the Pembroke District (north of Gladstone) from 1941 - 1976, when they retired to Portage la Prairie to reside at #1 Campbell Place. Upon moving to Portage, Roy and Carrie became members of the Trinity United Church, taking an active part in the church functions. Carrie was always active in her community. In Gladstone she taught Sunday School and Mission Band for many years. She was also involved with the U.C.W., Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 20 and the Liberal party. In Portage la Prairie, she continued in church organizations, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star, volunteer work, Art club and the choir. She was also a lifetime member of the U.C.W., the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Myrtle Rebekah Lodge No. 20. Carries social time was spent with her husband Roy at dances, square dancing, playing cards and visiting. They especially enjoyed their trips throughout Western Canada, south to San Diego, west to Victoria. In her spare time she liked to knit and do needlepoint. She will be remembered for her wit, English grammar skills and devotion to her family. Her last years were spent at the Douglas Campbell Lodge. We, the family wish to thank the staff for their kind and compassionate care.
