HERBERT MARION WYLIE 1917 - 2001 Peacefully and with the quiet dignity that characterized his life, Herbert Marion Wylie died on Monday, November 12, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital at 84 years of age. Dad was born in Transcona on October 22, 1917, first born child of Louisa and Frank Wylie. He attended school there, making many friendships that endured throughout his lifetime, especially his many curling teams. After a brief course in business practice he began work with the Canadian National Railway, a career that was interrupted only by service in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. Dad retired at the age of 65 from the position of Chief Storekeeper for the CN Prairie Region. On June 14, 1941, Dad married Philomene Coulombe. Together they provided a loving family life for their three children, Carole (Ron) Basarab, Frank Wylie and Peter Wylie. Residing in Transcona, briefly in Montreal, and then in Windsor Park, our family also shared many good times at our camp at Ottermere, ON. Dads devotion to our mother was demonstrated countless times as her health began to fail and she required care and understanding. Until his recent illness, Dad was part of daily life at her residence at Misericordia Place. Dads love for his grandchildren will live on in the memories of Sloane Basarab, Philip Wylie, Ben Basarab, and Adam Basarab. Predeceased by his sister Helen Hales, Dad is survived by his brother Ken (Helen) Wylie and his sister Francie Glacken, who made his final days so much brighter by their visits, and by his sisters-in-law, Frances Lubilanecki, Irene (Dave) Arnott, Theresa Craig and Theresa Coulombe, as well as many nieces and nephews. Our family deeply appreciates everyone who made special effort on behalf of our dad, beginning with the original experimental Reh-fit Program, which helped him regain his health after an initial heart attack, 28 years ago. Since becoming ill in June, Dad received the best of care from St. Boniface Hospital and Home Care. We thank you all. Funeral service will be conducted by our cousin, Rev. Susan Everton, on Friday, November 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Dads name to the Kinsmen Reh-fit Centre, the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, or to Misericordia Place, in care of Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
