Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORA CECILY McDILL (nee SMITH) It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Nora McDill, widow of Joseph, peacefully on November 15, 2001 in her 96th year. Nora was born, August 8, 1905 in Folkestone, England and immigrated to Canada after the First World War, in 1920. Shortly after her arrival in Canada she attended the Success Business College of Winnipeg. Upon graduating she took a job with Hudson Bay House Land Department where she met Joseph, her future husband, whom she married on June 4, 1927. During her career Nora also worked at Dominion Tanners, Capital Carpet, Dominion Securities, and several law firms, finally retiring from the firm of Michel and Rosner. Nora was involved in numerous activities and clubs during her life including the Aurora Snowshoe Club, the Catholic Womens League and as an executive member of the Hamilton House Seniors Apartment. During the Second World War she provided baked goods at the Service Centre for troops on leave, sewed for the Red Cross and worked on bond drives raising money for War Finance. She also enjoyed spending time with her family whether it was at various family gatherings, in Dauphin or the summers spent at Brereton Lake. Nora had three children, nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Besides her husband Joe, she was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, George and Richard Smith; three sisters, Winifred Reid, Irene Callaghan and an infant sister Margaret; a son John Francis; a granddaughter Shawn Marie; a grandson John Michael; and a great-granddaughter. Nora is survived by her daughter Barbara (Len) Matthew of Winnipeg and her son Donald (Donna) McDill of Dauphin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laurie (Wayne) Church, Greg Matthew, Jeff (Lauren) McDill, Chris (Darla) Matthew, Cathy (Michael) Yakubchak, Karen (Kirk) Dawson and Rob (Patti) McDill; 14 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-grandson; as well as one sister Barbara "Betty" Smith of Oregon, numerous nieces and nephews and relatives still living in England. The family would like to thank the staff at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, especially Brenda, Betty and Evelyn. Also a thank you goes out to her former homecare provider, Elaine. Prayers will be said on Sunday, November 18 at 7:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. Monsignor Louis McCloskey will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Assiniboia Christian Centre, John XXIII Parish, 3390 Portage Ave. A private interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Greg Matthew, Jeff McDill, Chris Matthew, Rob McDill, Wayne Church and Kirk Dawson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Noras memory to Operation Eyesight Universal, 4 Parkdale Cres. N.W., Calgary, T2N 3T8 or the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, 276 Hugo St. North, R3M 2N6.
