MADELEINE (MADGE) ROSE WAKARUK (nee OPITZ) On Tuesday, November 20, 2001, Madeleine passed on peacefully into the arms of the Lord. She was a brave woman, strong and gentle in faith. A faith that helped her fight the cancer that invaded her body. Her bedtime companion became a special Rosary that she treasured. Madeleine was born, February 23, 1925 in Austria. Madeleine will be missed by all who knew her. She enriched the lives of many. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Theresa, brother Paul, Uncle Martin Zwinger and brother-in-law Charles Paulson. She leaves to mourn her soul-mate and husband Lawrence; her daughters, Donna and Kimberly (Richard) grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley; her brothers, Robert (Dorothy), Andrew (Lee), and Martin (Sylvia) sister Margaret (Donald) Conlon; sister-in-law Barb (Gerry) Opits-Purnell; and many nieces and nephews. Madge had room for everyone in her heart and friends were special. Madge initiated the family picnics and her siblings birthday celebrations to help the families know each other, to be family. Cards and more cards - many of you will remember getting a card from Madge for all occasions. She is known to her family as the card lady. Madge was instrumental in bringing the Tough Love program to Winnipeg, the first ever Winnipeg meeting was held in our home. Madge sang in her local parish church choir for many years and at times was called on to direct it. She loved her flowers in the garden and her favourite for indoors were potted plants, for Madge was frugal as well as generous. She also enjoyed sewing and painting. She was always a person of unwavering faith and treasured the many faith groups she was a part of. Special thanks to St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care unit medical staff, support and pastoral staff for the comfort and care provided to Madeleine and her family. Thanks to our friends and pastoral care workers Alex Drobot and Fr. Michaud. We wish to thank the parish community, family and friends for their support, prayers, for the generosity of meals, for the flowers and many cards. Thanks to the Deacon and our small faith communities for their support and prayers. Thank you Fr. Ray for your presence during our struggle. Time of Reflection and Personal Prayers will be on Saturday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Dr. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Archbishop Emilius Goulet presiding and Fr. Raymond Baudry officiating. Interment to follow at a late date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Madges memory to St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, Palliative Care Fund, 409 Tache Ave., Room D1003, Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6. Where there is faith, there is love. Where there is love, there is peace. Where there is peace, there is GOD. Where there is GOD, there is no need. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
