ANNE KATE SHOPKA (nee HENRY) After a brief illness, Anne passed away peacefully on November 20, 2001 at the Charleswood Care Centre at the age of 78 years. Anne was predeceased by her husband Mike; his parents, Anne and Dimetro (Mike) Shopka; her parents, Annie and John Henry; sister Helen Henry; in-laws, Sophia Melom, Ted Trudeau, Jean Richards and Bill Thompson. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael (Heather), John, Brian (Linda) and Barry (Lynda) Shopka; daughter Linda (Barry) Martin; grandchildren, Michelle (Rendy) Leguee, Bryan Shopka (Rochelle), Justin and Curtis Martin; great-granddaughter Breanna Leguee, whose visits she cherished; in-laws, Rose Trudeau, Jarl Melom, John (Mary), Walter (Laverna) and August (Val) Shopka. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Mary (Les) Wood and Eileen Thompson; brothers. John (Winnie) and Frank (Margie) Henry, and special nephew Alphie Beard, all in England. Anne was born on March 26, 1923 in York, England. She married Mike on May 11, 1942 and immigrated, by boat, to Canada soon after. Having lived in many cities during Mikes career in the R.C.A.F., they remained in St. James after his retirement. In 1996 Anne moved to Charleswood Care Centre, where she met many beautiful people. Her independence, generosity and compassion to others made her many friends there. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, December 17 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. The family wishes to thank Dr. Smart, Irene and the staff at Charleswood Care for the care and kindness to Anne. A special thanks to Jean, a lovely personand roommate, and friends, Rosemary, Jean and "Rocket" for being there for her.
