MARGARET WASSON OATWAY It is with sadness, we announce the death of Margaret Wasson Oatway, at her residence on November 20, 2001 at the age of 91 years. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Stuart and Janet Craig; her husband Ross (1998) brothers, Stuart, John, Harry and Norman; sisters-in-law, Nora and Ruby; brothers-in-law, Joe Brown and George Williams. Margaret is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth (Alex) Guz, Edna Brown, and Jean (Jack) Oatway; brothers, Tom (Evelyn), Bob, and Jim (Marilyn) and brother-in-law Dr. Doug Oatway. Margaret married George Johnstone in 1953. They moved to Portage La Prairie shortly after and later on to Emerson, where George worked at the customs. After Georges death in 1963, she married Ross Oatway of Emerson, who also worked at the customs. They were both very active in the Eastern Star and travelled extensively throughout Canada and the United States. Margaret was a past Matron of the Dominion City Chapter of the Eastern Star, later on officiating with the Sheba Chapter in Morris and then when they moved to Winnipeg, the St. James Chapter. Ross was past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Manitoba of the Eastern Star. Margaret, in her earlier years, worked at the Bay in Winnipeg before joining the army in 1942 as a recruiting officer until 1946. She then returned to working at the Bay. Margaret was a wonderful cook and also enjoyed working in her garden. She could restore any of our plants without any trouble. Ross and Margarets later years were spent at their suite in the Courts of St. James and their trailer at Hillside Beach. A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, November 26 at 1:30 p.m.at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Dr., with Rev. Deborah Schweyer officiating.
