Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEILEEN JOYCE KUMKA After a brief illness, Mom was called into the presence of her Lord, on Wednesday, November 21, 2001 at the Selkirk General Hospital, with her family at her side. Mom was born in Selkirk, January 18, 1928, the daughter of Agnes and Norman Thomas. She was raised in Stoney Point where she received her early education. Her secondary education was completed in Selkirk in 1951. Mom was a graduate of Grace Hospital, Winnipeg School of Nursing. She faithfully served in the nursing field until 1993 when she retired from Selkirk and District General Hospital. Mom also served her Lord and Saviour as a faithful member of the Selkirk Gospel Chapel. She accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour in April, 1944. Mom was a quiet giver and supporter of many who served the Lord in the mission field and to those whom she felt needed a helping hand too. Moms quiet nature hid a wealth of wit and advice when asked. We will miss her gentleness and love. We can only hope that some of her goodness will be instilled in us. She gave so much and expected nothing in return. In the summer, Mom would spend some time helping where she could at Faith Bible Camp, whether it was nursing or helping out in the kitchen. In the winter she was part of the Friday night bowling league for many years. At almost any time Mom could be found knitting or crocheting and her love for reading was passed down to her children. For 44 years Mom tended to patients with kindness and the same care was given back to her from the staff and past coworkers during her recent illness. Thank you to the staff at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Mom was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1983, granddaughter Kymberle in 1979, mother in 1982, father in 1998 and brother Glen in 1994. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Norman (Donna) and David; by her daughter Muriel (Terry) grandsons, Scott, Tyler, Patrick, Ryan, Matthew and Jason; brother Ralph (Lorna) sisters, Carol (Ed) and Myrna (Joe) sister-in-law Ruth (Thomas) aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews and many cousins. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24 at 2:00 p.m. in the Good Shepherd Church, Selkirk with Mr. Laurie Barth and Mr. Ron Hampton officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Willie Monkman, Dave Hnatiuk, Irwin Kumka, Jimmy Houldsworth, Kevin Struch and Stephen Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be John Mackay, Albert Booth, Bert Anderson, Edwin Smith and Steve Ivanski. Anyone wishing to give a donation in honour of Mom could send it to Faith Bible Camp. Mom has been called home to glory by God above. Leaving behind a life of never ending love. Mom took an oath, in the world of strife, To be with the Lord for everlasting life. Although we feel the loss of her loving creation, We thank God for her salvation! With loving memories, your children. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
