Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySPIRIDON DOUKLIAS Peacefully, with his loving wife and children at his side, Spiridon Douklias passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at the age of 63. Spiro will forever remain in the hearts of his wife of 31 years, Nicki and his children, Angela, Alexandra (James Witmer), Theodora, and George. He also leaves to mourn many friends and relatives throughout Canada, the United States, and Greece. Spiro was predeceased by his father Gregory in 1977 and his mother Angela in 1988. Spiro was born in Kertezi, Greece on February 26, 1938. At the age of 12 he moved from Kertezi to Patras, Greece, where he began training in his life long love of woodworking. In 1964, Spiro immigrated to Canada in search of greater opportunities for himself and his future family. He later sponsored into Canada all but two of his seven siblings. In Winnipeg, he established and built a successful woodworking business. With a tremendous work ethic and a keen business sense, his company thrived for over 25 years. His shop brought him great joy and pride. Even at his busiest, he always found time to help family, friends, the Greek Community of Winnipeg, and the Order of AHEPA (Winnipeg Chapter) of which he was a faithful member for many years. Spiro loved people and travel and some of his most favourite past times included hunting, camping, and gardening. Spiro cherished his final hunting trips to Rock Lake with his son George, and in his retirement, found great pleasure in gardening and travelling with his wife Nicki throughout Canada and the United States. We will all miss his smile and quick wit, but most of all the love that he showed to all who met him, as well as his immediate family who he would have done and did do anything and everything for. The family wishes to thank Dr. Oscar Domke for his care and compassion, Dr. K. Vijay, Dr. C. Mihalcioiu, and Dr. J. Mulder and staff at the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit. Special thanks to Guy Morrison for his support and guidance. Prayers will be held on Friday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. The funeral service will take place at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, with Fr. Dimitrios Giannou officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens followed by a gathering at Green Gates Restaurant, 6945 Roblin Blvd. Pallbearers will be Gus Vardalos, Ken Hancock, Gus Papadopoulos, Paul Reid, John Andrews, and Peter Kolas. Honourary pallbearers will be George Parson, Chris Kourkafas, Charles Johnson, and Paul Theodorou. God saw him getting tired And a cure was not to be, So he put his arms around him And whispered "Come to Me". With tearful eyes we watched him suffer And saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, We could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Spiro will live forever in our hearts as a sweet and loving husband, father, and brother. WE LOVE YOU DAD. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
