Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGH VERNE HANNESSON 1935 - 2001 On Tuesday morning, November 20, Hugh Verne Hannesson, passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 66 years, in the presence of his loving wife of 38 years. The son of Hugh Lawrence Hannesson and Linnie Louise (Tate) Hannesson, both deceased. Verne is survived by his loving wife, Roberta; his two daughters, Michelle (Steven), and Roberta-Lee; his son, Hugh (Robyn) and five grandchildren, Blake, Devin, Erik, Camille, and Hannah. Verne was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Verne was the oldest of the four Hannesson brothers. Surviving; brother, Paul of NYC, brother, John of California; brother Roy (deceased 1964). Verne loved his brothers, and was proud of his Icelandic "Viking" family history. He was a partner with his father and brother in a local Winnipeg company named Park Hannesson in the 60s and 70s. Three decades ago, the press interviewed Verne on his success in advancing women in the workplace. He was an advocate of equal pay and of advancing women in management. This is something he taught to his children. Verne loved football, and played College football in St. Louis and, professionally for the Grey Cup winning Edmonton Eskimos in 1955. He was affectionately nick-named "Tiny", as he was a 340 pound Guard. He loved to swim, was a voracious reader and had a genius level I.Q. Most of all, he was a humble, gentle, patient and ever giving husband, father, son and brother. His life will be celebrated each day in the many memories he has given to his family. "We love you". A celebration of his life will take place on November 24 at 1:00 p.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 505 Academy Road. The family wishes to thank Margaret, Randy, and all friends and family for their love and support. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation in Vernes name.
