MORRIS M. SILVERBERG
Date of Passing: Nov 11, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMORRIS M. SILVERBERG November 11, 2001, Armistice Day, was indeed a very sad day for the family, the relatives, and the friends of Morris M. Silverberg, when he succumbed to a severe heart attack. He is survived by his only brother David. Although one often refers to "the Good Life", yet life, at times, can be relentlessly cruel. For it was less than a year ago that Morris and David had lost a younger brother Ernest. Nevertheless we are thankful to God for those very happy memories of sharing in the past. Morris, in his younger days, was a very jovial person and was liked by everyone - often referred to as "Murphy". He enjoyed to get together with the "boys" in a friendly card game such as bridge, or even poker, where a demonstration of skill was of far more importance than the stakes. He loved spending time sunbathing at our Beach Cottage, and especially boat fishing. But his greatest love was watching wrestling matches: both "Live" and on TV. Morris was very well known in Sales Circles. He was very sincere in all his undertakings, straightforward, and outspoken. It was these traits that earned him his crown as a top-notch salesman. When "fluorescent lighting" first hit the market, he came fully prepared for the marketing job by attending a course at a Lighting Institute. Later he switched to marketing major electrical appliances, representing Great West Electric Co. in that field. His thorough knowledge of his sales subjects, his sincerity and straightforwardness led to his services being sought by several of the major manufacturers. Thus, on leaving the Great West Electric Co., he was immediately approached by a number of them. The Philco Radio Television - Refrigerator Manufacturer was at that time, a subsidiary of Ford Motor Co. When they heard of Morris leaving the Great West Electric Co., they immediately offered him a very lucrative proposal. At some later date he had a similar experience with other major manufacturers such as the Kelvinator Co., a division of WCI Canada Ltd. and others. Morris held membership in several organizations. He was a "Life Member" of Prince Ruperts Masonic Lodge and The North West Commercial Travellers Association among others. He was also a great contributor and a lifelong member of the House of Ashkenazie Synagogue. The funeral services were held at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel on November 11, 2001, officiated by Rabbi A. Altein, with pallbearers Gerry Finkle, Ron Philipson, Morris Henoch, Harry Rabkin, Yale Gilbert, and Chuck Narvey. Morris always donated generously to Charitable Organizations, and seldom, if ever, turned down an outstretched hand. Donations, in his memory, may be made to any charity of your choice.
