Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT WILLIAM DELANEY Peacefully on Sunday, November 18, 2001, Bob Delaney passed away at his residence. Bob was a loving husband to late wife Margaret, proud father to children, Jeff Delaney and wife Karen, daughter Eileen Kirton and husband Ken. His memory will be cherished by his loving grandchildren, Shannon and Jeffrey Kirton, and Kate, Breanne and Maxine Delaney. Bob is survived by sisters, Alice Baxter, Evelyn Morton; and his brother Alan Delaney (Gloria). Bob is also survived by Gertie and Bob Pearson, Wilf Cansdale, and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by parents, Bob Delaney Sr. and Kate Delaney. Bob was born 1921, from Irish stock - the sixth generation of Delaneys in Canada. He grew up on Scotia Street in a loving family full of fun. He worked in the family fur business, Delaneys Furs alongside his Dad and brother. In the 60s, he began a career in club management, working at Rossmere, Bel Acres, the Charleswood Legion and ANAF No. 283 from where he retired in 1986. Dad served proudly with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders from 1940 to 1945, with a final rank of Major and also was with the Winnipeg Grenadiers and the WLI. Many of Dads lifelong friendships began in the military. He was a member of the Legion and ANAF No. 283, and he enjoyed talking and reading about the war years. In 1944 he married Margaret McKee and they had a loving, happy marriage for 51 years. Mom and Dad gave us a wonderful example of what a marriage should be. We are so proud of them as they were of us. Dad adored his grandchildren and they in turn loved him deeply and will really miss him. Number one for Dad was his family - he instilled in us his values of humility, honour, honesty, devotion and fun. Well all miss him but were happy he had a peaceful ending and now is with his love, Margaret. Dads interests included golf - he had a four handicap for 10 years - and had two holes-in-one. Over the years he also enjoyed curling, card games (especially bridge at which he was brilliant), T.V. and OV. A family graveside service has been held, with a wonderful farewell from ANAF No. 283. We thank our family and friends for their love and support and we especially thank Dads friend and neighbour, Carolyn, and ANAF No. 283. Another link in our family chain is gone but as God calls us one by one, our family chain will link again.
