ELLEN (NELLIE) WHITEHEAD (nee BARNES) In the presence of loved ones, Ellen Whitehead, a gracious lovely lady was called home to God on November 23, 2001. Ellen was born on May 29, 1912 in England, travelling to Winnipeg as a young girl of eight to make her home with Aunt Emma Baker, uncle and cousins. At 14, she began working as a nanny for the Scott family. When the boys were grown she continued working for the Scotts at the Orchid Florist Shop where she acquired her life long love of flowers and plants. She was married to her love, Glen, who predeceased her in 1994, for 51 happy years. Her stories of their Talbot Street home, the cottage at Silver Falls and their home on Ravelston Avenue West, revealed the joy they shared together and recounted many fond memories of family and friends. Nellie found great enjoyment in her later years having tea with friends and family, playing cribbage, baking dainties to share with others, talking on the phone (especially her nightly conversations with Frank), watching the "Young and the Restless" and "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" on T.V., interacting with children and youth, attending Church, family get-togethers, going out for lunch, and the company of her beloved dog Sandy. She will be sadly missed by her family, cousins, Frank Baker, Gladys Sunstrom and Frank Bosworth; sisters-in-law, Jenny Pike and Beth Dirks; Glens aunt Catherine Watson and cousin Joan Steffon; nieces and nephews, Barry, Bruce, Beverly, Laurie, Debbie, Susan, Jim, Susan, Bruce and Van and their families; Tammas Scott and family; by her extended family, Dennis and Doreen McMullin, Deanne and Randy, Dave and Jody, Doug, April, Candise and Jesse, and by her many special friends. A memorial service in celebration of Ellens life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27 at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West. GREEN ACRES FUNERAL HOME 222-3241
