GERARD (GERRY) MARCEL BENJAMIN Peacefully on Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Red River Place, aged 86 years of Selkirk, MB, husband of the late Jane. Dad will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his six children, David, Ernie (Laraine), Irene (Todd), Jamie (Marie) and Janie (Scott) six grandchildren, William (Dayna), Mary-Jane (Craig), Michelle, Mathew, Spencer, and Hunter; and one-great-grandchild Emily June. Gerry was predeceased by his wife Jane, brothers, Clement and Louis; and a sister Solange. He leaves to mourn his passing three brothers, Prosper, Leo and Henrie; five sisters, Denise, Marie-Jeanne, Annette, Lucille, and Juilette; and numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Dad was born on November 21, 1915 in Vonda, SK. In his youth he travelled and worked on Lake Superior and Chicago. He married Johanna in 1949 and lived and worked in Saskatchewan and California. Gerry then worked with his brothers in Benjamin Construction until 1964 when he started his own business, G. Benjamin Construction in Selkirk. Dad loved his garden and looked after a varied assortment of farm animals. His favourite pastime was a good cup of java along with all the friends that shared it with him. A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, November 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel with Fr. Bogaslaw Wardzinski officiating. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Red River Place. The family is also grateful for Dr. Wozneys many years of care and to Dr. Lindenschmidt for continuing that care. A special thank you to his niece Louise for her compassion and thoughtfulness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerrys name to CancerCare Manitoba, ON 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
