Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERNICE GERALDINE HEARN December 19, 1915 - November 24, 2001 Suddenly at East View Lodge in Neepawa, Bernice passed away. Bernice was born in Kelwood, MB, the eldest daughter of Albert and Elsie Hearn. She attended school in Kelwood and then came to Winnipeg to attend Normal School and subsequently began her teaching career. She continued her studies through the University of Manitoba and later earned her B.A. and B.Ed. Turtle Plains, a one room country school was the first, then to Ochre River and subsequently to the Winnipeg School Division where she taught at John. M. King, Laura Secord, Harrow, Andrew Mynarski, Gordon Bell and Lord Selkirk. She retired as Principal of the Montrose School. The exchange teachers program afforded her the opportunity to see the world: she taught one year in Johannesburg, South Africa, and one year in Los Angeles, plus short term teaching positions in Australia and New Zealand. As an avid traveller she took a sabbatical leave for a year to circle the globe. Playing bridge was a favourite pastime. As a longtime member of the University Womens Club she inaugurated the very popular Marathon Bridge program. The Nearly New Shop of the McKinnon Guild was a favourite charity. When her health failed she chose to reside at East View Lodge in Neepawa. Bernice was predeceased by her parents; a younger sister Irma Sirett; and her brothers-in-law, Doug Hockin and Harry Spratt. She is survived by two sisters, Neta Spratt of Winnipeg, Ila Hockin of Neepawa; and one brother Eldon Hearn (Joyce) of Winnipeg; and brother-in-law Lloyd Sirett of Neepawa; plus several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; plus many, many friends. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service was held in Neepawa. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 29 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrews River Heights Church, 255 Oak St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernices memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
