EDWIN (ED) FUNK April 4, 1944 - November 25, 2001 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edwin (Ed) Funk at his residence on Sunday, November 25, 2001. Ed will be lovingly and forever missed by his wife Evelyn; daughter Alanna; and son Colin (and fiance Jody) and beloved family pet Marbles. Besides his wife and children, he leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Helen Wieler; brothers, Harry (Pat) and Leonard (Carolyn) Funk; Edward (Marilyn) and Peter (Janine) Wieler; his sisters, Norma (Walter) Rempel and Alvina (Henry) Klassen; mother-in-law Stella Soroka; sisters-in-law, Linda (Jim) Sorenson, Kathy and Diana Soroka; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father Jacob Funk and sister Rose Boychuk. Ed was born in Steinbach and received his education in both Steinbach and New Bothwell. He moved to Winnipeg in the early 1960s and was employed at United Grain Growers, Penner Dodge and Penner Mazda. In 1971, he joined the Winnipeg Real Estate Board and was employed by McKague Sigmar and Century 21 - Goldeye Realty. A consistent top producer, Ed built a solid reputation in the real estate field. In 1978, his career changed direction and he became a residential real estate appraiser. In 1985, he opened his own business, Ed Funk Real Estate Appraisals Ltd., located on St. Marys Road. He received his CRA and AACI designation and at the time of his passing was working as a residential-commercial appraiser. Ed married Evelyn Soroka in 1971 and during their 30 years together, they raised two children, Alanna and Colin in the St. Vital area. Ed and Evelyns marriage was a true partnership, working side-by-side at home and at the office. Despite working tirelessly at his profession, Ed was also a devoted family man. He took great pride in his children, supporting their endeavours and providing them with many happy memories of a loving home life and family vacations. A great role model to everyone who knew him, Eds nature was to be selfless and giving and he went out of his way every day to help someone. Ed never said "no" and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. He also enjoyed entertaining his family and many friends and there was not a better host to be found. Everyone was welcomed in his home. During his leisure time Ed could be found at the cottage in Lac du Bonnett, on the golf courses at Pinawa and Kingswood, or in the winter, on downhill ski trips with his family and friends. He also gave his time to many charities and was a long-time member of Capitol Lodge No. 136, where he forged close bonds with his Masonic brothers. The family wishes to thank neighbours, paramedics and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Emergency for their care and compassion. Thank you also to those who have expressed their concern and support and sent food and flowers. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere with Pastor John Neufeld officiating. Interment will follow at Glen Lawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eds memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Arrangements to: GLEN LAWN FUNERAL HOME 455 LAGIMODIERE BLVD. 982-7550
