LABBE MATHIAS MESSIER Labbe Mathias Messier de la Residence Saint-Antoine, a Saint-Boniface, est decede lundi le 26 novembre 2001, a lHopital General de Saint-Boniface a lage de 88 ans. Mathias est ne a Saint-Mathias-sur-Richelieu, PQ le 3 novembre 1913, etait fils de feu Arthur Messier et Rosedelima Jeannotte. Il laisse dans le deuil des neveux et nieces au Quebec et en Alberta. Il commenca ses etudes a lAcademie Ste-Brigide, Montreal (1919-1920), continua a lEcole du Sacre-Coeur, Legal, AB (1922-1928), a St-Francois-Xavier, Edmonton (1928-1932), puis se rendit au Grand Seminaire St. Joseph, Edmonton, poursuivit ses etudes en philosophie (1932-1934), il continua sa theologie au meme endroit (1934-1937), ensuite completa sa theologie au Grand Seminaire de Montreal (1938-1939). Mathias fut ordonne le 18 juin 1939 par S.E. Mgr Emmanuel Deschamps a leglise Notre-Dame, Montreal, incardine au diocese dEdmonton en 1936 et a celui de Saint-Boniface en 1938. Successivement il fut vicaire-substitut a Rainy River, ON (1939-1940), vicaire a la paroisse Holy Cross (1940-1941), cure a Starbuck (1941-1945), a Carman (1945-1952), a Pine Falls (1952-1956), aumonier a lHopital Saint-Boniface ou il donna aussi des cours de religion aux etudiantes infirmieres (1956-1964). Il fut ensuite cure a Letellier (1964-1971), a La Salle (1971), aumonier a temps partiel au Centre Saint-Amant, Saint-Vital (1974-1986) et se retira a la Residence Saint-Antoine (1986). La messe des funerailles, sera presidee par Mgr LArcheveque, Emilius Goulet, p.s.s. a 10h30, a la Cathedrale de Saint-Boniface, le jeudi 29 novembre. Linhumation se fera au cimetiere devant la Cathedrale. Mathias a toujours fidelement rendu service avec un zele discret, la joie au coeur, envers ses paroissiens et ses confreres. Puisse le travail quil a accompli, dans un esprit de foi et dabandon total parmi le Peuple de Dieu, porter fruit dans le diocese et dans lEglise. FATHER MATHIAS MESSIER Father Mathias Messier of the Residence Saint-Antoine in St. Boniface, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2001, at St. Boniface Hospital. He was 88 years old. Mathias, son of deceased Arthur Messier and Rosedelima Jeannotte was born in St-Mathias-sur-Richelieu, PQ, on November 3, 1913. He will be lovingly remembered by nieces in Quebec and Alberta. Mathias attended lAcademie Ste-Brigide, Montreal (1919-1920), continued at lEcole du Sacre-Coeur, Legal, AB (1922-1928), at St-Francois-Xavier, Edmonton (1928-1932), then to St. Joseph Major Seminary, Edmonton, for philosophy (1932-1934), went for theology at the same place (1934-1937), then completed his theology at Grand Seminaire de Montreal (1938-1939). Ordained to the priesthood on June 18, 1939 by Bishop Emmanuel Deschamps, in Notre-Dame Church, Montreal, was incardinated in Edmonton Diocese in 1936 and in that of Saint Boniface in 1938. Fr. Mathias consecutively occupied the following positions: assistant at Rainy River, ON (1939-1940), assistant at Holy Cross (1940-1941), pastor in Starbuck (1941-1945), in Carman (1945-1952), in Pine Falls (1952-1956), chaplain at St. Boniface Hospital (1956-1964),pastorin Letellier (1964-1971), in La Salle (1971), chaplain at St. Amant Centre, St. Vital (1974-1986) and retired a la Residence Saint-Antoine (1986). The funeral mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Emilius Goulet, p.s.s., on Thursday, November 29 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Boniface Cathedral. Interment will be in the Cathedral Cemetery. Mathias has always been most generous in rendering discreetly and joyfully a diversity of services, be it to his parishioners, his colleagues and fellow priests. May the work he has carried out so faithfully, in complete abandonment to Gods will and for the people of God, bear fruit in the Archdiocese and in the Church.
