HELEN JANZEN Peacefully, with her family at her side, Helen Janzen (nee Pankratz) passed away early Wednesday morning, November 28, 2001 at Donwood Manor at the age of 82 years. She leaves to mourn, her husband Franz Janzen and daughter Ann (Orest) Kisser; grandchildren, Teresa (Todd) Breen, Darrell Kisser; great-grandchildren, Dane and Alexia Breen; sister Elizabeth Kehler, and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by seven sisters and three brothers. Helen was born in the Ukraine. She married Franz Janzen. Just one year later, they were forced to part, due to Franz being drafted into the army just six days after their daughter was born. During the war, Helen was forced to flee many times. Eventually, she and her daughter were given permission to come to Canada in 1948. Years later, after many attempts, Helen was finally able to get permission for her husband Franz to come to Canada as well. It was her strong faith in her Lord and Saviour that kept her going through all these difficult times. After 32 years, Helen and Franz were reunited. They spent 25 wonderful years together and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993. Helen worked for 30 years at Western Glove Works in Winnipeg. She loved her family and enjoyed entertaining and gardening. Special thanks to the staff at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home for their understanding and special care. Memorial service will be Saturday, December 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the Portage Ave. Mennonite Brethren Church, 1420 Portage Ave. Interment will be in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, prior to the service at 9:00 a.m. Viewing and devotional will be Friday, November 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway. If friends desire, donations may be made in Helens memory to Alzheimer Manitoba, or to Donwood Manor, available at the service. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
