AKSEL ANDERSEN KROGH Unexpectedly, on Wednesday, November 28, 2001, Aksel (Alex) Krogh, of Winnipeg, passed away at the Victoria General Hospital. Aksel was born in Denmark in 1921, came to Canada in 1948 and arrived in Winnipeg in 1950. Starting in the home heating field then moving on to the construction industry, he earned his qualification for Journeyman in sheet metal. Having an inquisitive nature, he took pride in finding unique solutions to problems, "Kro-tech," as his sons would say. Aksel was an enthusiastic traveler with a lifelong interest in people, places and languages. A man of many accomplishments, he learned English at age 28 and greatly enjoyed word play and word games. Gaining his high school equivalency and taking post secondary education courses were very rewarding for him. Impartial and independent, Aksel sought to treat all with dignity and fairness. Upon retirement, he and Florence spent 10 happy years on their acreage near Stead, MB, leading an organic lifestyle. Aksel was a man ahead of his time, seeking to be at one with nature. Stewardship of the land was important to him. The next 10 years were spent enjoyably in Beausejour, returning to Winnipeg in 1998, upon diagnosis of Alzheimers disease. Remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife Florence; sons, Harley and Stuart (Rosalie) grandsons, Spencer and Joel; brothers, Sigurd and Johannes, of Denmark; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws in Canada and Denmark. Aksels funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Ave. at Mount Royal Road (off Ness Avenue). Our family would like to thank everyone who helped over the last few years, particularly Jean Chennell of Klinic and Wilma Gibbons and the orderlies of Home Care. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Aksels memory to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, Inc., 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2, Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0S2, or to a charity of ones choice.
