JOSE JOAO MARIA Peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2001, Jose Maria passed away at the Health Sciences Centre with family by his side. Jose leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 50 years, Rosa; his daughter Maria (Jan) two sons, John (Pat) and Victor; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother Anibal (Isabel) two sisters, Maria de Lourdes and Carma of Portugal and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Angelica in 1970. Jose was born on December 28, 1926 in Portugal and grew up there until he decided to immigrate to Winnipeg in 1955 to support his family. He worked as a labourer until his retirement. He had a long and full life even through his illness his life was always enriched by warm relationships with family and friends, to whom his home was always open. He was a firm, strong person who left a mark on all who knew him. Jose was a true outdoors person, whether it was hunting, barbeques, but especially his garden. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the doctors and staff of Health Sciences Centre for their compassion and care. A celebration of Joses Life will be held on Monday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. with Rev. Fr. Jose E. Medeiros officiating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Death is a going home. It is a door into the larger life and into the greater story, where the wounded of life are healed and the tears of life are dried. No pen can write, no tongue can tell, our sad and bitter loss.
