EILEEN H. HAINES (nee COPLING) Peacefully on November 28 after a brief illness Eileen H. Haines passed away. "Nanny" will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Bill, Laura, Victoria; and by her children, Joseph (Patricia), John (Janice), and Lisa Joy, as well as her extended family, Trinda Lee and Brittany. Eileen was predeceased by her mother Daisy, father James, brothers, David and Bill, daughter Lylla Ann in 1986, and her husband, Neil, in 1990. Eileen was born in North Easthampton, England in 1923. During the Second World War, her brother Bill introduced her to a young Canadian soldier whom she later married. In June of 1946, Eileen (five months pregnant) boarded a hospital ship, The Leticia, joining over 500 other women and children for her North Atlantic crossing to Halifax, NS. There she boarded a train bound for her new home in Western Canada. Over their 47 years of marriage Eileen and her husband, Neil, lived in various parts of Western Canada including Churchill and Winnipeg through Neils career in the construction industry. Eileen enjoyed spending time with her family and pets. Her interests varied from the ballet and opera to bowling and golf (frequently beating her sons at both). Most of all she was an avid bingo player and didnt mind the small pots as long as she got to yell "Bingo!" once in a while. Eileen also had a keen sense of humour, and always enjoyed a "naughty" joke and maintained that sense of humour to the end. The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of the Riverview Health Centre, Palliative Unit 3 East for their care and compassion. As well we would like to thank Moms home-care nurse, Dale. In accordance with Eileens wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:00 a.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
