BERNHARD S. PENNER Peacefully, on November 29, 2001, Dad slipped into eternal rest at the age of 79. He is survived by his sons, Ben, Henry, Ed, John and Peter; his daughters, Adina, Eva, Mary, Anna, Erna, Caroline and their families. He was born on March 11, 1922 in Gnadenfeld, MB, the fifth of six children to Bernhard and Elizabeth Penner. As a young boy his family followed the Mennonite Movement to Paraguay, South America in 1927. It is there that he married his wife of 55 years, Cornelia. In 1966, the family of 12 set out for Canada in search of a better life, settling in Altona. Dad started out work in construction and carpentry, and became well recognized as part of the mens church choir - he was very passionate about his singing. He and Mom spent their retirement in Winnipeg, with Dad enjoying his favourite pastime of "tinkering". When Moms health failed, he proved his loyalty and commitment to her by caring for her tenderly until her death in September 1998. Following this loss, he continued to remain active by volunteering at M.C.C. and spent countless hours as a visitor to the sick in hospital. At home, he loved to read, watch wildlife videos and go for walks. Unfortunately, he suffered a stroke in January 2001, which left him paralysed and unable to speak. After hospitalization, he was caringly looked after by daughter Adina, until he was called to be with his Lord. He was predeceased by wife Cornelia, three infant children, son Tony in September 2000, and his two brothers, three sisters. Dad, your presence will be so very missed ... until we meet again.
