JOHN HENRY OLFERT Peacefully, after a brief illness at the age of 80, John passed away with his daughter by his side in the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on November 30, 2001. Dad was born on February 2, 1921 in the U.S.S.R. then immigrated to Canada at a very young age. John was predeceased by his only son Eddy (October, 2000) brother Ike (November 27, 2001) mother; father; three brothers and two sisters. John is survived by and leaves to mourn his loving, devoted wife June of 44 years; daughter Shirley Stevenson (Winnipeg), (three grandchildren) daughter-in-law Joyce Olfert (Morden), (two grandchildren) seven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Fran and Roy Preston (Nanaimo) three brothers; four sisters and nieces and nephews. John and June enjoyed life and made many friends boating, golfing, travelling and spending winters in Arizona. John was known as an honest, well-respected business man in the car dealership industry. He started in the car business at a young age in Carman, MB, then many years in sales and managerial positions in Winnipeg, MB. Having always dreamed of owning his own dealership, he and June moved to B.C., where, in his mid 50s, he built and prospered in Courteney Chrysler - his pride and joy. After selling the business they moved to Nanaimo in 1995 where they enjoyed their retirement the past six years. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the special care of nurses and doctors at the N.R.G.H. and support and help of family and friends. As per Johns wishes, cremation and interment will take place at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar, B.C. at 1:45 p.m. on December 6. Following the service an Open House Tea will take place for family and friends at their residence at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society.
