ETHEL LAURA JOHNSON Peacefully at Health Sciences Centre on November 29, 2001, Ethel Johnson passed away with her family at her side. Born in Kenville, MB January 2, 1909, Ethel was educated in Pelly, SK. She married Vernon Johnson in 1935 and lived in Norquay, SK for 3 years, moving back to Pelly in 1938 where she had two sons, Merle and Rodney. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1943 and then to Neepawa, MB in 1947 where they resided until 1957 when they returned to Winnipeg. Ethel worked as a telephone operator in Pelly, Norquay, Manitoba Telephones, Y.W.C.A. and for Deer Lodge Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1973. Ethel enjoyed tennis, skating, basketball, bowling and curling, was active in church work and taught Sunday School in Pelly and Neepawa. She was a member of C.G.I.T., the Rebeceah Lodge and Royal Purple Lodge. Ethel was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, John, and Wilfred and three sisters, Louise, Olive and Phyllis. She is survived by her two sons, Merle and Rodney (Gillian) as well as her grandchildren, Susan (Rick), Brian (Kathy), Barbara (Chris), Craig (Nicole), Jennifer (Tom), Darren (Tammy), and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and very close friends. Among her close friends and her next door neighbors are Archie and Edna McDonald and family, with whom Ethel had a very special relationship for many wonderful years. Funeral service 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 4 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. Interment will be held at a later date. Honourary pallbearers are Frances Hartle, Edna McDonald, Darleen Bradansky, Thelma Sigurdson, Jerry Purdy and Helen Pedlar. The family thanks the Health Science Centres C.C.U. unit, M.I.C. unit and the GD4 ward for their efforts and in particular to Linda the nurse whose kind, caring and considerate attention made Moms/Grandmas closing hours as comfortable as possible.
