Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE SKALING (nee STUART) Surrounded by the care and love of the staff of Park Manor Personal Care Home in Transcona, Myrtle passed away peacefully on Friday evening, November 30, 2001. She was born in Winnipeg on September 13, 1907 and was raised in the Point Douglas area. She was the fourth of the seven children born to William and Mary Ann Stuart. Predeceased by her parents, brothers Charles and James, sisters Clara, Ann, Mary and Isabel. Her stepdaughter Miriam Bardal in 1993 and her dearly loved grandson Jay Stuart Bates in June 1961. Myrtles first husband, Morrison Calder died in 1955 and second husband Dr. James Skaling died in 1976. Mom is survived by daughter Gerry and son-in-law Larry Bates of Transcona, grandchildren David and wife Mary-Ellen and their children Kathleen and Naomi of Victoria, BC, Laurie and husband Marc Chamaillard and their son Mathieu of Argyle, MB, and Lindy and husband Jason Bichlbauer and their baby son Jay, born this year on great Nana Skalings 94th birthday. She also leaves her family in Victoria, BC, her step-son-in-law Paul Bardal, grandchildren Paul Jr., and April (Joe) and great-grandchildren Shayne, Nicholas, and Jessica. One brother-in-law Al Mager of Norco, CA and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by longtime friend and co-worker Mabel Brown. Mom started working in the office of the Modern Laundry at a very young age and continued there for many years.She subsequently worked at Scott-Bathgate and Sangster Bros. Mom was a great shopper. She loved to go for lunch and very much enjoyed family gatherings right into her 90s. Mom married Dr. James Skaling in 1961 and was a resident of Maple Ridge, BC for 16 years, returning to Winnipeg in 1977 after the death of Dad Skaling. She was a longtime resident of the Kiwanis Centre in Transcona and had resided at Park Manor for four years. Our family would like to thank the administrative staff, Dr. K. Grace and all the wonderful nurses, aides, recreation, dietary, cleaning and laundry staff. Thanks to the volunteers and everyone at Park Manor for your kind compassion, care, and dignity shown to Mom. Your care, kindness, and prayers will always be remembered. Each and every one of the staff are very special people and work together to make Park Manor a place to be respected and admired. A very special thanks to her nephew George and wife Georgina Firth for the visits and concern. Thanks to Elsie Thompson of the Kiwanis Centre who was always there for Mom and for us. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at a later date. Thanks to Joyce at the Transcona Funeral Home for her kind assistance with our arrangements.
