He will be missed by his wife of 21 years, Pat (nee Franklin), sons, Barry (and Leslee) of Thunder Bay, Dave (and Judy) of Saskatoon, SK, John (and Georgia) of Kenora, stepson Patrick Taylor (and fiancee Frances) of Surrey, BC. Hal is survived by his brother Bob (and Lillian) of Keewatin, 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Hal was born in Kenora on October 28, 1925 to Annie Milfred Marchant. He lived his whole life in Kenora attending local schools. He started working for C.P. Rail in 1941. Later that year he signed up with the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on the HMS St. Lambert until 1945. Upon his discharge Hal returned to C.P. Rail where he achieved the position of engineer and served three terms as president of his local of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Following his retirement in 1985 he and Pat took advantage of their freedom and became snowbirds for 14 winters. Hal was an avid curler, playing in the NCO Bonspiel, a keen bridge player, and a golf fanatic until health problems slowed him down. He spent his last 10 years coaching the Blue Jays and the Blue Bombers from his sideline armchair. Hal was a 50 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Cremation has taken place in accord with Hals wishes. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Devins, Mervyn (Stubby) Dubchak, John McLaughlin, Sammy Scaletta, Jack Steeves and Bob Strain. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Harold Wilfred Marchant to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation or a charity of their choice. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6 at the Brown Funeral Home, Kenora. Interment will be at a later date. Browns Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
