Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GEORGE SUTHERLAND December 15, 1916 - December 5, 2001 On Wednesday, December 5, 2001, our beloved husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, John George Sutherland of Peguis First Nation, passed away at the Percy E. Moore Hospital at the age of 84 years. His loving wife, Bertha and family were by his bedside. John leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 63 years, Bertha; sons, Alex (Peggy), John (Ethel), Robert (Joy), Irvin (Tina), Rod (Dina), Earl (Marilyn), Michael (Sharon) daughters, Sylvia Henwood, Bernice Sutherland and Edith Sutherland; daughter-in-law Margie Sutherland; brothers, Dave Sutherland and Percy Sutherland; brothers-in-law, Michael Stevenson and Fred Stevenson; 41 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; seven granddaughters in-law; one grandson in-law Sam Spence; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Bella Sutherland; son Allen; sisters, Pearl Stevenson, Evelyn Flett, Mary Wilson, Sarah Manningway, Lena Hall and Annie Stevenson; brothers-in-law, John Stevenson, Sam Flett, Fred Wilson, Wm. Robert Manningway and Ernest Hall; sister-in-law Auntie Edith Stevenson; son-in-law Brian Henwood. Dad was a loving, kind man. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, guiding and rice picking. He guided at Chesley Resort with many American hunters. He was a barber of Peguis. He loved the great outdoors and did numerous chores around the yard and home. Dad constantly ordered mom to keep the house tidy. He enjoyed his many grandchildren. Dad was also the All Saints Anglican Church keeper for many years. He will always be remembered and loved. Rest peacefully Dad - we love you. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Rev. Barry Bear, Rev. Wesley Barrett, the staff at the Fisher River Personal Care Home and the Peguis Personal Care Home, the doctors and staff at the Percy E. Moore Hospital, the Peguis Chief and Council, and to all those who helped out, and showed their concern and support to our family, especially Sharon Wilson - thank you for your kindness. A wake service will be held on Friday, December 7 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 8 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Both services will be held at the All Saints Anglican Church, Peguis, MB, with Rev. Barry Bear and Rev. Wesley Barrett officiating. Interment to follow at St. Peters Anglican Church Cemetery.
