Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOANNE KRAWCHUK It is with sadness the family wishes to announce the passing of our mother and baba Joanne Krawchuk on Tuesday, December 4, 2001 at Holy Family Nursing Home. Joanne will be deeply missed by her children, Olga Fuga, and Orest (Gail) Krawchuk; her grandchildren, Dale (Cynthia) Fuga, and Lesley Anne Fuga; great-grandchildren, Graham and Adam Fuga. She is also survived by her nieces, Stella Perih (Sudbury), Larissa Stavroff (Toronto), and Nadia (Ted) Bosak (Stouffville) and her nephew Walter (Eileen) Krawchuk. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years John, her son-in-law Tony Fuga; as well as her four brothers and two sisters in Ukraine and her sister Katherine Kratko (Sudbury). Joanne was born on August 18, 1906 in Western Ukraine. She came to Canada in 1926 as a young woman and encountered the many challenges and hardships familiar to all immigrants who left their homeland seeking a better life in the new world. Although she couldnt speak a word of English, had scarce resources, as well as a debt to repay to her sponsors to Canada, she quickly adapted to her new environment. Within a week after her arrival to Winnipeg she found employment picking sugar beets at a farm in St. Norbert. She continued working at various jobs that required physical stamina until the age of 77 when she "retired" to look after her husband John who had become ill. Joanne and John were married in 1927 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress. She regularly attended church services until her 92nd year. Her family was very important to her and after she moved to her new home at the Holy Family Nursing Home, she continued to attend both the Ukrainian Orthodox and Ukrainian Catholic services in the chapel until failing health prevented her from doing so. She was an active member of the Church Sisterhood, cultural groups, as well as the Ukrainian Benevolent Association of Canada, BR. #21. Throughout her life Joanne has been a shining example of inner strength, boundless energy and generosity. Her main preoccupation has always been the family. As a devoted wife, mother and baba, she constantly placed her own wants and needs after those of her family members whose existence and accomplishments made her thankful and proud. But she didnt stop there. Her deep faith and inborn altruism spilled over onto her many friends and anyone she knew. Her unconditional love and genuine concern for the good of others will remain as a guiding light and inspiration to all who knew her. Prayers will be sung 7:30 p.m., Sunday, December 9 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 10 at Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Mary the Protectress, 820 Burrows Ave. with Rev. J. Buciora officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Holy Family Nursing Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, R2W 1T9. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate and all the staff of St. Francis ward of Holy Family Nursing Home for their support, thoughtfulness and compassionate care. We would especially like to thank primary caregivers, Wanda and Nubia for always attending to Moms needs. We would also like to thank Rev. J. Buciora for his visits to our mother and for being there in her hour of need. To love a Mom and then to part, Is the greatest trial to the human heart. Years of striving, little of play, Loving, giving the whole of the way. A cherished smile, a heart of gold, to the dearest Mother and Baba the world could hold. Happy memories, fond and true, From us who thought the world of you Beautiful memories, fond and true, From us who thought the world of you. Beautiful memories are treasures ever, Of happy days when we were together. With aching hearts we whisper low, God bless you Mother and Baba, well miss you so. Father in heaven, hear our prayer, Guard our Mother with tender care. Be a Good Shepherd, dont leave her alone, Love her as we loved her when she was here at home.
