Offer Condolences or MemoryTHE HONORABLE MADAM JUSTICE EILEEN NASH Eileen Margaret Nash passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2001. She will be lovingly remembered by her adored son, Joshua Ochman; her mother Mary; her sisters, Patricia and Aldeen Nash; her brothers, Diarmuid and Dr. Richard Nash. Eileen was recently predeceased by her father, Dr. Richard Nash, and her aunt, Dr. Bernadette McGivern. Eileen was born in England on June 14, 1949 and moved shortly thereafter to Winnipeg, MB with her parents. She attended St. Marys Academy from Grade 1 until her graduation from Grade 12 in 1967. Eileen received her B.Sc. in mathematics from the University of Manitoba in 1971 and her LL.B from that university in 1974. Eileens distinguished career began in 1975 when she was admitted to the Alberta Bar and joined the Crown Prosecutors Office. In 1987 she was named Assistant Chief Crown Prosecutor and was appointed a member of the Special Prosecutions Branch in January 1988. As a crown prosecutor, Eileen was well known as diligent, thorough, independent, formidable and fair. After many years of distinguished public service, Eileen was appointed a judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta on May 13, 1991. On February 1, 1993, Eileen was elevated to the Court of Queens Bench of Alberta. Eileens judicial career reflected a deep commitment to the justice system. The Bar and the Bench will forever remember her for her demanding approach to judging, which earned her an outstanding reputation for integrity, wisdom and courage. Eileens reputation for discipline and determination was also made on the running trails and in the gym, where she worked and played with tireless enthusiasm. Eileen will be deeply missed on all the trails she blazed. Her spirit and her legacy will always be with us. Rev. Michael McCaffery will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Josephs Basilica, 1004 - 113 St., on Saturday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m., with entombment to follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum.
