Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRIS LILLY SHYMKIW (nee SKIEHAR) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Iris Lilly Shymkiw (nee Skiehar) on Sunday, December 9, 2001. She is predeceased by her sister Phyllis Skiehar (1942) and father Matt Skiehar (1987). She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Andy; son Brian; daughters, Diane (Mark) and Nancy (Dan) as well as her grandchildren, Rachel and Emma (Lori Laker) and Chase and Zach; mother Annie Skiehar; sisters, Joanne (Dale), Eleanor (Walter), Janet (Dave), Angeline (Terry), and Carol (Brock) and brother Walter (Linda) as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Mom was born on January 4, 1942 in Sheho, SK. She married Dad in 1962 and they settled in Rossdale, MB. From tending her garden to being Dads trusty sidekick, Mom enjoyed life to the fullest as shown through her many wonderful friendships. You knew that wherever Dad was, Mom was sure to be only a few steps behind. Mom found great happiness in her work as well as her four beautiful grandchildren, who she always had extra hugs or pockets full of treats to give out each time they came over. Mom loved to play baseball, bowl and showed her green thumb each spring in her garden where she spent hours keeping it immaculate. Mom will always be remembered for her strength, courage and that contagious smile. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Seven Oaks General Hospital 5, Unit 7 for taking care of Mom during her stay, Dr. L. Ullyot, Dr. C. Bourqe, Dr. M. Kristjanson, the staff and home care providers at the Interlake Regional Health Authority who took Mom under their wing, the ALS Team at Deer Lodge Centre, Winnipeg, and Dr. David Walk and the ALS Team at University Hospital, Minneapolis, MN. Prayers will be said on Thursday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Blessed Virgin Mary The Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church, 530 Donald St., Rossdale, followed by funeral services on Friday, December 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the same location with Fr. Michael Winn officiating. Internment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Charlie Bobrowich, Metro Fincaryk, Walter Nowicki, Merv Picklyk, Emil Wishnowski, and Alec Woloshyn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba. In days we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away Our hearts were nearly broken, You fought so hard to stay. God looked around his garden. And found an empty space, Then He looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put his arms around you, And lifted you to rest, Gods garden must be beautiful, For He only takes the best. Thank you Mom for the fantastic memories. We are really going to miss you. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
