Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE KORY (DYRKIS) Peacefully at rest, Josephine Kory, aged 88 years, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, in the care of St. Josephs Residence, Winnipeg, MB, with her family and several of St. Josephs staff at her side. Josephine was pre-deceased by her husband Dominic; parents, Joseph and Telka; sister, Pat; brothers, Harry, Frank and Tony. She is survived by her daughter, Adele and son-in-law Gorden Andrus and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada, United States and Poland. Josephine was born on November 7, 1913, the eldest daughter of Joseph and Telka Dyrkis (Dyrkacz) in Winnipeg, MB. After her marriage to Dominic in 1933, they moved to Thunder Bay, ON, (Port Arthur, ON) to make their home. During that time, Josephine took an active part as a prominent member of the Polish community in Port Arthur. She was the first vice-president of the first executive of the Ladies Circle of the Polish Alliance of Canada, Branch 19 Thunder Bay. Later, she was also president of that organization. As president of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Lakehead Hotelkeepers Association, many fundraising events were conducted in aid of charitable causes. She was also an active member of the Catholic Womens League of Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Thunder Bay and with the formerly St. Josephs Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Thunder Bay. Many years of volunteer work was spent with these organizations. Throughout her life, Josephine loved travelling, golfing, curling, playing bridge and bingo. She spent many enjoyable days during the summers at her camp at McKenzie Beach on Lake Superior in Thunder Bay with her family and friends. There, Josie excelled in cooking, where she loved to prepare and serve fine meals to all those family friends, who just happened to be visiting at supper time. A good time was always had by all. Prayers will be held on Thursday, December 13, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Josephs Residence for their excellent care given to Josephine over the years, and for their care and compassion during Josephines final days, especially to the nursing and attending staff and the pastoral care volunteers.
