MARY KOWALYK On Wednesday, December 12, 2001, our beloved mother, Mary Kowalyk, passed away at the Beausejour Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Ilko (Alec) on July 16, 1974. She missed him dearly and continuously spoke of joining him especially as she battled with her unforgiving cancer this year. She was born on March 10, 1914 in Winnipeg to Katerina and Kost Waskiwchuk. With her two brothers Mike and Nick, they moved to Elma Village. Tragically, they predeceased her in 1921 and 1930. On June 20, 1930, Mother married Ilko Kowalyk. Purchasing land, they farmed and raised animals with their four sons and one daughter. All surviving are, Gerald (Regina) and David (Nora) of Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Hope (Dennis) Prystanski of Kakabeka Falls, ON; Eugene (Linda) of Vermilion Bay, ON, and Peter (Sandra) of Winnipeg, MB. After Dads death, she sold the farm and moved to Armstrong Manor in Beausejour, MB where she resided the last 26 years. Mother loved to travel, constantly visiting her children spending Christmass and holidays with them. She loved to cook and bake her ethnic Ukrainian dishes. This art and the traditional celebrations she passed on to us, will forever be embraced with our families. "Baba" leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceasing her are two grandchildren, Julie and David Jr. Kowalyk, as well as her parents. Prayers will be said on Sunday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Ave. E. Beausejour, MB. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, December 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elma, MB, with Rev. Fr. Ivan Denkiv, the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAMYAT SOBERING FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM, Beausejour, 268-3510 or MB Toll Free 1-877-776-2220
