MANUEL CAMARA 1916 - 2001 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Manuel Raposo Camara on the morning of Friday, December 14, 2001, at the Seven Oaks General Hospital, at the age of 85, after a short battle with cancer and a stroke. His memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Maria Jose of 59 years; his children, Judite (Joao), Maria de Lourdes (Ilidio), Matilde (Jose), Armando (Helena), Juliana (Jorge), Idalina, Manuel Antonio (Barbara), Jorge (Charlene), Mario (Conceicao), and Esmeralda (Ceasar) his sisters, Conceicao Benevides, Lourdes Castro and Romana Farias; sister-in-law, Natalia Camara; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as extended family, friends and caregivers. Manuel was predeceased by his daughter Romana; brother Tome; and brother-in-law Mariano Benevides. Manuel was born and raised in Sao Miguel, Acores. He immigrated to Canada in 1964 where he enjoyed a very fulfilling life. He always took pleasure in spending time with his family, walking his dogs, playing cards and gardening. Prayers will be held on Monday, December 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St., Winnipeg. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 18 at 10:00 a.m., also in the Church, with Rev. Msgr. Maurice J. Comeault presiding and Rev. Jose Eduardo Medeiros, concelebrating. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. A sincere thank you is extended to the staff at the Concordia and Seven Oaks General Hospital for their care, kindness and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Manuels memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division), 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B7 or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
